Our days begin with mornings and we must start them right. Mornings are for a fresh start and help build the tempo for the day ahead. Hence, it becomes important for us to start our mornings with mindful habits and thoughts.
And you would be surprised to know the immense amount of structure and stability a morning routine brings into your life. Having a routine helps us to stay in control of our day and our schedules rather than the day having control over us. Mornings are the epitome of calm and high energy, which can help you to plan your day well ahead of time. They bring in a sense of new possibilities and it becomes crucial for us to tap into that energy and carry it throughout our days.
When Should I Begin My Mornings?
Whatever time suits you best. Yes, you read that right. I am not going to tell you to wake up at five or six to start your day. You get to decide what time suits you best to plan and prep for the day. The only thing you need to keep in mind is that the hour you choose to wake up will provide you with an ample amount of free time for you to focus on yourself.
The main focus of having a morning routine must be for you to get some time alone with yourself, to practice mindful habits which will bring a sense of calm and comfort within you.
What Should I Inculcate In My Routine?
Morning routines should consist of healthy and positive practices. By healthy and positive, I mean anything that helps you to think, act and feel good.
This may include meditation, reading a book, exercising, painting, or listening to your favorite podcast. All of these are so crucial for our well-being and yet we don't seem to find time for them. So when you build a morning routine it is for the sole purpose of making time for what brings us a true sense of joy.
What Should I Avoid Doing In The Mornings?
This list is almost as important as the list of things you should do, if not more. The most important thing to avoid as soon as you wake up: YOUR PHONE. I can never put enough emphasis on not using your phone first thing in the morning. It can be either to check social media or your emails. Do not do it. Like I have said before, you don't want to start your day with a sense of worthlessness or jealousy.
Another important thing to avoid is sad songs. Music has a huge impact on our moods and there is no scientific explanation required to prove that. So be conscious of your morning playlist, make sure it is peppy and uplifting.
Since it is of utmost importance to infuse positivity to the beginning of your day, here are a few affirmations you can recite to yourself in the mornings:
> I feel energized and excited.
> I feel healthy and strong.
> I am excited about all the new opportunities waiting for me today.
> I treat myself and everyone around me with kindness.
> Today is a great day to start working on my dreams.
> I handle all hurdles with ease.
> I love myself just the way I am.
